DevOps Engineer

A Powerhouse within the wealth management and professional services industry is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join their team in Glasgow on a permanent basis with the option to work remotely twice each week.

Job purpose

To collaborate with the release and environment team, helping to develop automated processes for releasing, updating and patching Azure VM’s, app services and other Azure native infrastructure.

This role is part of a new central reliability team that is in the process of developing a ‘path of least resistance’ for developers. You’ll work with internal and external customers automating BAU and developing a suite of automated release and patching scripts for patching cloud hosted VM’s.

You’ll report into the Release Manager, and work closely with a release analyst, developing you own workload. The ability to automate the mundane and think outside the box is essential for this role. This is an exciting role as were essentially starting with a blank canvas, allowing you to forge your own path.

Key Responsibilities
* Develop and deploy automated tool for patching and updating Azure VM’s.
* Start to embed to ‘code once use often’ approach.
* Create, maintain, and roll out a suit of standard machine images.
* Start to develop central knowledge bank of technical documentation.
* Automate, where possible, testing and deploying software releases.
* Actively identify areas of improvement and own fixes.
* Ensure security is the underpinning of any new process or approaches.

Key Skills and Experience Required
* Experience in a Cloud hosted DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineer role.
* Strong experience with working in Microsoft Azure, including in securing Azure environment.
* You have a good knowledge of CI/CD tools such Azure DevOps or Jenkins.
* You have experience of administering version control systems such as Git.
* Have strong automation skills using PowerShell and Bash.
* Package management using tools such as chocolatey, Scoop, Windows Package Manager CLI
* Experience working with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
* You enjoy collaboratively problem solving to provide simple solutions to complex problems
* Good experience with Confluence and JIRA (or other similar products)
* Good technical documentation & presentational skills
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Strong stakeholder management
* Experience with .NET development is a desirable but not necessary
* An understanding of the problems faced by businesses that have recently migrated to the cloud would be a clear advantage.
