We are delighted to have secured funding for this exciting new initiative

This is a brand new post offering designated Physiotherapy to our Unscheduled Care Mental Health service based in Neath Port Talbot Hospital.

The post will form part of the first designated physiotherapy service within the SBUHB to Mental Health Unscheduled Care wards and will hopefully lead to other developments in future

It will provide Physiotherapy cover for a single point of admission ward offering assessment, treatment and advice for a variety of co-existing physical problems whilst also offering support and interventions for those with acute mental health needs. It links with two wards based in Swansea and there will be close links with the Physiotherapy team there

Patients in this service may have various mental health issues including attempts at self- harm, anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions This role provides an exciting opportunity to promote activity and healthy lifestyle to a population that has a high risk of co-morbidities.

Main duties of the job

Offer assessment and treatment for a variety of conditions using highly skilled assessment and interventions

To offer advice on issues such as mobility, ability to access local transport and falls risk

To plan and undertake exercise opportunities on the ward , and work closely with community exercise providers to enable continuity of healthy lifestyle post discharge

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree or equivalent diploma in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registered Physiotherapist
  • Clinical Educator for Physiotherapy Students
  • Desirable criteria

  • Membership CSP
  • Membership relevant Special Interest Group
  • Knowledge and Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Broad range of recent experience in different aspects of Physiotherapy
  • Knowledge of health issues relevant to the area
  • Knowledge and Experience of key mental health conditions
  • Experience of close working within MDT
  • Experience in giving advice to other professionals and MDT teaching
  • Desirable criteria

  • Direct experience of working in Adult Mental Health
  • Experience in Wheelchair provision and assessment
  • Demonstrated interest in health promotion issues
  • Professional

    Essential criteria

  • Evidence self directed learning and courses relevant to area
  • Evidence of supervision of junior staff
  • Experience in measuring quality of service through audit or other mechanism
  • Desirable criteria

  • Problem solving and organisational skills
