The Valuation Control Group (VCG) is a global department within the Controllers organisation, responsible for validating fair value measurements consistently across asset classes. The key responsibilities of the group are to perform independent price verification for traded inventory, reviewing the appropriateness of valuation adjustments, classifying inventory according to the Fair Value Hierarchy and to provide input into new trade reviews. 

Valuation Methodology is a specialist team within VCG, and one which is crucial and highly influential. The team focuses on a wide-ranging and evolving scope of initiatives, from known valuation and governance issues to areas of changing and emerging market practice. The team investigates these issues, provides thought-leadership to senior management on their resolution, and provides specific, practical and implementable advice on how to address them.

  • What do you do as a Valuation Methodology Policy VP?

  • You will work as a member of the Global Valuation Methodology Policy team , covering all businesses and regions at Citi.
  • The purpose of the team is to help ensure Citi has the most appropriate and complete valuation control framework across all areas of price verification, valuation adjustments, valuation uncertainty and wider governance aspects.
  • You will support the development of a strong valuation control framework and the application of consistent valuation methodologies for Citi.
  • You will work in partnership with Valuation Control managers across multiple locations.
  • You will assist in developing and drafting formal policies , technical papers and governance documents that support the valuation control environment. This will include the creation of new controls and overseeing their implementation.
  • You will lead initiatives , and interact with senior management to develop and propose solutions to complex technical challenges or control issues.
  • You will support the management and delivery of various valuation governance forums.
  • You will coordinate global valuation methodology projects and initiatives , tracking progress of key projects against deadlines, including regulatory and audit actions.
  • The priorities of this individual will be set by Global Head of Valuation Methodology Policy, and this individual will be expected to manage those priorities appropriately. There will be crucial deadlines that will need to be achieved.
  • Regular interaction with a wide variety of other functions within Markets globally and within the Global Controllers organization.
  • What do we expect from our Valuation Methodology Policy VP?

  • Extensive experience in a valuation, risk or product control related discipline. Applicants with other policy-related backgrounds may also apply.
  • Strong understanding of valuation control principles.
  • University/College degree in any finance, economics or quantitative subject.
  • Strong understanding of current global accounting and regulatory developments pertaining to valuation of financial instruments.
  • An ability to understand complex concepts and effectively challenge peers in Finance, Risk and the Business.
  • An understanding of derivative and securities products and different models used for valuation.
  • An ability to work across teams & silos, and to leverage existing relationships.
  • Leadership skills in influencing and coordinating people.
  • Adaptability to changing circumstances, as the prioritization of projects will need to evolve.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
