Location: Heywood, Manchester
Position Title: Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer
Reports To: Chief Mechanical Design Engineer
Summary:-
Bobst Manchester design and manufacture vacuum metallizing machines primarily for the packaging industry. The majority of our equipment is exported worldwide and our customers use them to produce sustainable packaging, decorative foils and currency, among many other products. The position is based in a busy department of Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineers, where the machines are designed from concept to final detail.
Main Responsibilities:-
? Contribute ideas / innovation to continued improvement of machine design.
? Management of tasks whilst working as a full supportive team member on projects
? Use of 3D CAD (PTC Creo)
? Use of 2D CAD for layouts and Schemes
? Carry out concept and detailed design
? Generate Bill of Materials (BOM’s)
? Produce detailed drawings to agreed standards
? Perform design calculations
? Select suitable components within agreed guidelines
? Hold presentations to colleagues at all levels
? Check others designs, drawings and BOM’s
? Ownership of tasks and deliver to deadlines

? Good communication skills both verbal and written
? Able and happy to explain instructions and procedures to vendors and customers

? Able to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines

? Ability to develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues across all departments
? Is available for worldwide travel
o Normal place of work will be in the design office, but there will be a requirement for travel on some projects and retrofit work.
Education and Experience:
? HNC / HND or BEng qualified engineer in Mechanical Design
? 8 Years’ minimum experience in a design office to include:
o Concept design and layouts
o Detail designs and drawings to BS8888
o Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
o Design calculations
o Design checking
? Experience in component and material selection
? Experience in 3D CAD modelling of parts and assemblies
? 2D CAD for layouts and schemes
? Computer literate in Microsoft applications
? Capital machinery experience
Desirable
? Experience of working with sheet metal
? Experience of working with web / textile handling machinery
? Vacuum system experience
? Chartered membership
? Experience in design of refrigeration systems
? Experience in pneumatic, hydraulic, machine controls and other mechanical systems
? Pro Engineer / Creo Parametric 3D CAD
? Hands on experience in mechanical fitting and assembly, welding and fabrication, machining and manufacturing
