The Science Museum Group (SMG) is the world’s pre-eminent Museum devoted to the history of science, technology, industry and Medicine.

The SMG incorporates the Science Museum (London), the National Railway Museum (York), Locomotion (Shildon), the National Science & Media Museum (Bradford), Museum of Science and Industry (Manchester) and collections stores at Blythe House (Olympia) and National Collections Centre (Wiltshire).

With multiple sites to look after, there is always a steady stream of exciting and diverse contracts to procure. These range from exhibition design & build, IT services, equipment and software, professional services, marketing and communications, catering, cleaning and facilities and conservation, to name just a few.

In addition to business-as-usual tenders, the Procurement department is responsible for leading the tendering activity for the Vision 2025 Programme, the £55M transformation of the National Railway Museum in York and Locomotion in Shildon. Also, our One Collection programme, Masterplan Phase 2 and Estate Improvement projects involve a high level of procurement activity.

About the role

As new and exciting programmes develop across SMG, we seek a proactive Procurement Lead who thrives in a fast-paced environment and who has relevant experience of procuring capital projects.

You will be the Procurement Lead for Masterplan & Estate, responsible for delivering a professional and proactive service for the procurement of a wide range of goods, services and works across the full range of SMG’s activities but primarily for the Masterplan & Estate teams.

Leading and managing the procurement activity for Vision 2025 and Estate Improvements, you will also tender for any requirements for the Masterplan and Estate teams and establish new internal frameworks for relevant construction-related professional services across these teams.

As we are currently working to a hybrid arrangement, you can be based from any of our sites in London, Manchester, Bradford, Wroughton or York with regular site presence. However, some travel to other SMG sites will be involved to ensure the relevant projects are appropriately supported.

About you
You will have experience in leading construction-related/capital procurements and providing a good level of supplier relationship management. Thriving in a fast-paced environment, you can manage multiple procurement activities simultaneously and demonstrate a commitment to sustainable procurement.

A strong communicator, you have great interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with your key stakeholders, colleagues, and suppliers.
