Calculations Analyst – Outside IR35

Our client is looking for a Calculations Analyst to join their Edinburgh team for a 6 months initial contract with full intention to extend.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Balancing competing priorities on different pieces of work.
  • Analysing complex technical problems, and being creative in identifying practical solutions that can be implemented in challenging timescales.
  • Keeping technical and business knowledge up to date, including relevant legislation and product rules.
  • Simplifying technical information into more easily understood terms.
  • Influencing decision across Standard Life project teams, where priorities and interests are often conflicting.
  • Proposing pragmatic, innovative, cost-effective solutions to complex problems where there are often no existing solutions, or a new perspective is required
  • Extracting information from all relevant sources to establish an accurate scope of the analysis exercise.
  • Undertaking analysis of a range of data sources, to produce options and recommendations for a workable solution and drive action from key decision makers.
  • Designing test planning and execution to ensure adequate coverage while taking into account targeted/efficient testing.
  • Managing relationships with peers and internal and external colleagues, to ensure successful delivery of solutions.
  • Identifying and acting upon process improvements to drive and engender an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Carrying out business as usual analysis activity in your specific technical area of expertise (calculations) to support the running of the business.
  • Identifying and managing risks and ensuring appropriate controls are in place to demonstrate adherence to the relevant governance framework.
  • Providing technical support and coaching to less experienced analysts in area of expertise.

    Essential

  • Excellent & proven analytical skills.
  • Excellent numerical ability/Higher Maths.
  • Good planning and organisation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good team player
  • Capability and willingness to gain knowledge of PC applications, such as Word, Excel, Access and Visual Basic, and their more complex functionality.
  • The ability to work unsupervised.
  • Desirable

  • A university degree in Mathematics or a related discipline, eg Statistics.
  • Proven analysis experience and successful delivery on time and on budget of multiple projects.
  • A good working knowledge of Standard Life’s Life and/or Pension products and Standard Life’s Systems.
  • Knowledge of FCA rules and other legislation governing Life and Pension products.
