Senior Lecturer in Digital Media and Communications. (1.0 FTE, Permanent)

The Manchester Metropolitan iSchool in the Department of Languages, Information & Communications is dedicated to the study of the relationship of people, information and digital technologies, and to the design and development of effective information products, services and systems. The Manchester School of Art continues to push the boundaries of developments across the arts and creative industries in response to the development of screen-based business and technologies, Based in the heart of Manchester, with close links with the growing creative and digital sector, we host a diverse programme of degree apprenticeships, Continuing Professional Development, work-based training, undergraduate and postgraduate courses and resources. We build on the award-winning strengths of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and bring together creative disciplines, technical and scientific skills, industry partnerships and global research to train the next generation of talent in digital media provision and communications.

The ideal candidate will contribute to, and lead on the design and delivery of HE curriculum at undergraduate and postgraduate level and across relevant programmes such as the BSc (Hons) Digital Media & Communications, MA Library and Information Management and on the Apprenticeship Degree in Digital User Experience (working with colleagues in the School of Digital Arts and the Faculty of Business and Law). This role requires a versatile approach and ability to contribute to a team that spans across disciplines, encompassing both academic and industry professionals.

The successful applicant will have:

  • PhD, or demonstrable industry equivalent experience and networked connectivity in digital media and communications industries.
  • Research/Knowledge Exchange profile commensurate with career stage (if Research, entered into the REF 2021 with evidence of quality in innovation, significance, and/or rigour; if knowledge exchange, evidence of industry impact)
  • Key Essential and Desirable Skills:-

  • Key skills: Given the interdisciplinary nature of digital media and communications, we welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in digital media, digital society and organisations and information management and systems.
  • Essential Skills: demonstrable teaching experience and capabilities, along with research and/or knowledge exchange experience commensurate with career stage, and experience in the areas of digital media and communications (digital society and digital organisations, project management, data analytics in enterprise and innovation).
  • Desirable skills: Knowledge and experience in any of information products or systems development, web design, interactive interfaces, ethics, digital rights and digital records management. Digital publishing experience would be an additional bonus.
