This post is designed to compliment already existing services while aligning with the departmental strategy to improve the care of frail older people within Forth Valley. The department is looking to scope the needs of frail older people who present with surgical issues beyond orthopaedics and into general surgery and it is hoped that this post will allow this need to be further evaluated.

The department is also in the process of evolving its frailty at the front door work and establishing a same day emergency care assessment pathway for frail patients. This compliments our Hospital at Home model in collaboration with both Primary Care and the Health and Social Care Partnership HSCPs with the aim of delivering specialist unscheduled care input to acutely unwell frail older people but in their own homes The successful applicant will make a significant contribution to shaping these important links between services going forward.

There will be an initial focus on assessment and management of patients within the Forth Valley Royal Hospital setting. There will is negotiable weekend on call available. . The appointment will be subject to the terms and conditions of service of the Specialty Doctor Grade (Scotland).

Applicants will have completed four years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) and have at least two years experience in caring for older patients in a community environment.
