This is a rare and exciting opportunity to work as a part time consultant psychiatrist within a well functioning community mental health service for older adults. You would be joining two full time consultant colleagues in the provision of clinical leadership and consultant care for our mental health community team for older adults, and in a particular take a lead role in the integrated care mental health liaison team and provide psychiatry consultation for the local rapid response service.

This post comes from new investment to develop our mental health community services for older people more flexible and aligned to the transforming community care agenda. Person Specification
Higher Qualification:

  • Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent
  • Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of gaining CCT.
  • Section 12 Approval (Mental Health Act) and eligible to be on the register of Approved Clinicians (MHA, 2007).
  • Desirable

  • Higher Degree
  • Endorsement of Old Age Psychiatry
  • Knowledge and Experience

  • Good experience of working in older adult community psychiatry services and especially in the care and assessment of complex co-morbidity.
  • Good experience of working with acute disturbed patients.
  • Desirable

  • Experience of Memory Clinic
  • Experience of working with psychotherapy models of care
  • Specific experience and knowledge of psycho- pharmacology.
  • Academic Achievement:

  • Able and willing to teach medical students and lecture on undergraduate and MRCPsych courses
  • Desirable

  • Interest & willing to supervise research projects.
  • Published research
  • Personal Skills

  • Ability to train and supervise junior medical staff / medical students / staff from other disciplines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent clinical skills.
  • Commitment to/skills in multidisciplinary working.
  • Commitment to working with service users in ongoing services development.
  • Cultural sensitivity, ability to work with a diverse population.
