Applications are invited for an Animal Technician position based in a modern facility in South Cambridge. As part of a hardworking and friendly team, you will be actively involved in the supporting metabolic phenotyping studies for research groups based within the Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science-Metabolic Research Laboratories (Wellcome-MRC IMS-MRL) and Medical Research Council Metabolic Diseases Unit (MRC-MDU). Your duties will include regulated and non-regulated procedures in support of metabolic research projects, general care of facility common areas, consumable stocking and equipment maintenance and stringent record keeping in accordance with Home Office legislation and University health and safety policies. You will occasionally be required to provide out of core hours (both remotely and attendance on site)

You will be educated to GCSE level grade A-C/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a science subject/ equivalent level of practical experience, is essential. Experience working in an academic or commercial laboratory is also essential. You must have basic IT skills and be able to demonstrate a methodical approach to problem solving.

Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential to work within a team but occasionally with periods of lone working with minimum supervision. An honest, conscientious approach, the ability to work to deadlines with attention to detail and the ability to carry out a number of versatile tasks are essential.

Training will be provided and there will be multiple opportunities for personal and professional development.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2023 in the first instance.
