Our local authority client has a 3-month contract vacancy (with the possibility of extension) for the role of a PHYSICAL ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER, details as follows

Job Purpose

As the Physical Activity Development Officer, you will focus on increasing participation in physical activity and sport across the borough with the particular objectives; to reduce health inequalities, increase inclusion and community resilience. This will include: leading on developing the community asset base to increase inclusive physical activity and sports opportunities, working to ensure sustainable inclusive physical activity opportunities through a variety of means, including developing volunteering, leadership and mentoring within the physical activity and sports context.

Responsibilities

  • To manage relationships with all community and internal partners to ensure the ongoing sustainable development of inclusive physical activity and sport in the borough:
  • To lead on the development of a comprehensive borough wide inclusive physical activity offer; with sports clubs, disability organisations, physical activity providers and governing bodies.
  • Physical Activity Development Officer has to lead on specific projects to increase physical activity and sports opportunities e.g. GOGA (Get Out and Get Active)
  • Work with appropriate partners, for example the leisure centre operator and tenants of park facilities to promote and develop inclusive multi-sport activity centres:
  • As the Physical Activity Development Officer you have to develop effective working relationships with officers across all services throughout the council and with external agencies, including the leisure centre operator, Sports’ National Governing Bodies, Regional Development Officers, Public Health, Youth and Children Services, (including schools):
  • Lead on the development of inclusive physical activity policy and practice.
  • Lead on the advocacy of inclusive physical activity with partners and stakeholders to ensure that inclusion is embedded across the range of physical activity opportunities in the borough

Essential Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in leisure or a related field.
  • Experience of leading and developing inclusive programming.
  • Ability to work unsocial hours including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Effective verbal, written and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to write and present formal reports, data and information on complex issues.
  • Extensive experience of stakeholder engagement and ability to maintain effective working relationships with a range of agencies/partner services (including internal partners) and to lead on developing physical activity and sport in the community.
  • Leadership, negotiation and influencing skills, able to effectively handle tension and conflict.
