Job responsibilities

The Business and Performance Manager will be an Expert on RTT, Cancer and Elective service standards. You will have a strong awareness of general management theory and practice to include but not exclusively; quality, performance indicators, contract management, financial management, HR management and service/business development.

Key Result AreasCreation of a monthly divisional board report inclusive of all key performance areas for presentation.Support and lead junior operational team to improve performance and deliver compliant services against RTT targets, including potential solutions for demand and capacity challengesCollaborate with General Managers and Deputy Divisional Director to create and maintain Divisional SOP for RTT complianceLead on standardising approach to validation and PTL management e.g. creation of escalation pathway, ensuring all services have had a core services reviewChairing a weekly Divisional Assurance Meeting, providing supportive challenge to Assistant General Managers and Deputy General Managers with regards to performance ensuring it is aligned with Divisional expectationsCollaborate with speciality teams to ensure parity of approach and focus towards performance targetsSupport General Managers in delivering sustainable service improvement plans in response to GIRFT specialty reports and recommendations / Elective Recovery requirements to deliver 104% of 2019/20 activity.Identify opportunities for service improvement, and lead on implementation plans with AGMs/DGMs to improve performanceDevelop business cases aligned with service improvement opportunities where investment is requiredTo support the Division in analysing processes, mapping out and improving where possible with clinical input patients pathwaysTo regularly assess and provide guidance on the veracity and presentation of information of performance information produced by AGMsIdentify clear areas for development within junior operational team and provide a standardised best practice crib sheet for division.

Training and DevelopmentTo lead on development of AGMs/DGMs knowledge of business case, project management and recovery plansCreate and lead a standardised approach to escalation of non-achievement of performance targetsCreates learning packages and facilitates development sessions for junior operational staffDrives process efficiency in continuous development of Divisional performance monitoringLocal training of junior operational staff in project management methods and models that can be applied to daily workloadMonitors development of understanding or method demonstrated by junior operational staff, providing regular constructive feed-back.

Project managementAccountable for short, medium and long term business cases in close collaboration with Divisional General ManagersSupports the development and implementations of strategies for improving performanceCreation and management of Divisional Performance work programme incorporating all performance projects and improvement action plans owned by the divisionFacilitate if necessary process mapping sessions with junior operational staff as a result of areas of improvement being identified

Undertake any other appropriate duties commensurate with the role, as required at the request of your line manager.

Flexible on site and home working is also supported when appropriate.

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification
  • Post graduate management qualification or equivalent knowledge gained through experience
  • Desirable

  • Master’s degree or equivalent years of experience
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Senior management experience in the NHS or related employer/sector which must include experience of directly managing staff and non-pay budgets
  • Experience of providing services to a high quality with restricted resources
  • Experience and evidence of business case preparation, presentation and implementation
  • Experience and evidence of implementing change management projects to develop or improve services
  • Experience in managing clinical specialties and delivering against national and local performance targets
  • Knowledge

  • Highly developed communication skills (written, oral, presentational and interpersonal)
  • Proven conceptual and analytical skills
  • Able to make and take sometimes difficult decisions after analysis of options and implications
