Job Description

Opportunity for a Senior Project Manager  to work within the SMR project delivery team. You could be leading work packages and/or placed within an integrated client team reporting to the Assystem SMR Project Director.

You will be accountable for delivery to time cost and quality for packages of work as part of the SMR Project including identifying future opportunities for Assystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for delivery of agreed Project to time, cost and quality
  • Work closely with the Engineering Team Leads to identify and report, progress, scope changes, meeting actions, issues, and risks
  • Identify and take all necessary corrective action to achieve project objectives
  • Accountable for the development implementation and maintenance of project communications plans including project reporting requirements.
  • Manage project KPIs including Earned Value monthly reporting
  • Proposal writing, estimating, and planning
  • Managing (sometimes as the line manager) a team of Project Controls resources (Project Managers, Project Engineers, Planners, Cost Engineers) to support the delivery of the scope and reporting. This will include overseeing and managing the workload within this team as well as mentoring and developing junior staff
  • Working with other SMR work packages Project Managers and Lead Engineers to deliver an integrated multi-discipline programme that meets the project requirements and high-level milestones
  • Identify and engage with the supply chain for the delivery of discrete packages or work in collaboration with the Lead Engineer
  • Preparation and review of monthly Projects Reports working with the Lead Engineer
  • Challenge the design team to optimise the design against the project schedule
  • Prepared to travel to customer and other Assystem offices
  • Work in integrated teams across client and other Engineering Consultancy partners
  • Agreeing hours estimates with stakeholders for activities undertaken by the Project team
  • Ensuring the relevant project risks are identified and managed/mitigated as appropriate. This includes regular monitoring of the residual risks.
  • Management of change controls
  • Attendance at various progress meetings, producing the output and subsequent monitoring of actions
  • Update the Project Planner with schedule updates, to enable effective progress monitoring and schedule accuracy
  • Development of Forecast to complete along with updating any variances against the schedule baseline spend and complete the appropriate change control or mitigations to bring back to the baseline

    Your Background:

  • This role would suit someone who is looking for a challenge in developing the future of the UK Power Generation.
  • The candidate should be able to use their Project Management skills to innovate and challenge the delivery of project solutions for a Nuclear Power Plant. 
  • You have Project Managed a design team before and can manage engineers at different levels of the organisation.
  • You can demonstrate working within a broader project context and can demonstrate delivery within required timescales and to the required quality standard, ideally using Primavera P6 and can demonstrate experience of Earned Value Management
  • Experience of commercial management frameworks such as NEC3.
  • You will be able to communicate your ideas in English to people of all levels of the business and customers both by written and verbal means. 
  • You will have a Project Management background in a regulated industry ideally but not limited to Nuclear, Conventional Power, industrial engineering, Oil and Gas.
  • You will have an HNC/D or Degree, ideally in a technical discipline and have a project / planning qualification, i.e., APMP.
  • Self-starter and can manage own workload and those working for them within the Project Control Team.
  • Security Clearance: 

    Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
