Tax Assistant – Corporate Tax Centre of Excellence

Our Corporate Tax Compliance Centre of Excellence (‘COE’) is a dynamic and successful area of our business. A constantly changing and increasingly high-profile field, we can offer you the opportunity to utilise and develop Corporate Tax compliance skills in an innovative and supportive environment.

Our services are delivered by dedicated Corporate Tax compliance specialists using our cutting-edge technology platform. We are winning new clients and are growing as a result of these successes, so it’s an exciting time to join the team!

We are now looking for Tax Assistants to join us in Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow.

What will you be doing?

With our technology enabled solutions our compliance specialists can focus on technical excellence, opportunity spotting and managing the compliance relationship with clients.

We are offering both full time and part time roles with flexible working arrangements which include, early or late starts to fit around other commitments, shorter working days etc. We would be happy to discuss your own requirements and our range of flexible working arrangements in more detail, should that be of interest.

Core aspects of the role are:

  • Provide day to day support to Managers and Assistant Managers to assist with their portfolio of clients.
  • Prepare or review the first draft tax computation for a portfolio of clients, take responsibility for ensuring their tax computations are prepared on a timely basis for review
  • Understand and plan for the client requirements at the start of each compliance cycle based on instructions received and timetable agreed with the client and deliver work in accordance with those requirements.
  • Liaise with the client to obtain information required to prepare tax computations.
  • Identify technical issues, prepare initial technical analysis and liaison with senior colleagues to resolve technical position.
  • Build and maintain relationships with teams in other KPMG offices and with our offshore partners.
  • Assist with other ad hoc tax compliance work including tax accounting.
  • Follow KPMG best practice and policy around the compliance process.
  • Build an understanding and actively use KPMG technology in the compliance progress.
  • Who are we looking for?

    You have just started your corporate tax compliance career, and you may have reached this stage in your career by various means. At KPMG we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. The successful candidate will have the following experience and skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent team working and organisational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required in addition to strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Academic aptitude
  • Positivity and an enthusiasm for corporate tax compliance
  • Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of preparation or review of corporate tax computations and returns.
  • Ability to identify and resolve technical issues, or escalate as appropriate.
  • Awareness of specific technical areas including: capital versus revenue treatment; pension scheme and share scheme adjustments; group relief; basic transfer pricing; tax accounting for single entities and groups; controlled foreign companies and corporate interest restriction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in addition to strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent team work and organisational skills, including monitoring timetables and budgets.
  • At KPMG we use Alphatax as our primary compliance deliverable tool. A background in another tax software solution will come with transferable skills and transition training will be provided.
