Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon to come and join our experienced team at Wakefield Vets4Pets.

We are conveniently located close to motorway networks including the M1 and M62 and the on the rail line between Leeds and London. Our practice is purpose built to industry leading standards and is well equipped to do most things. There is a digital x-ray machine, a digital dental x-ray machine, an ultrasound machine (about to be upgraded this year!) lots of orthopaedic equipment, a wide variety of surgical instrument, multiparameter monitoring including CO2, cautery, endo-surgery equipment and fixed and flexible endoscopes.

Our partner, Steven Hen-Boisen, qualified in 1996 at Onderstepoort in Pretoria, South Africa and has always had a strong interest in Small Animal, with surgery being the main focus and orthopaedics in particular. Steven successfully opened Wakefield Vets4Pets in 2002, which was one of the first Vets4Pets practices to open, and has been a JVP there here since. He continues to develop by completing a few modular courses in Surgery and also achieving the GP Certificate in Small animal practice in 2006. He also spent many years on the Vets4Pets Joint Venture Council including being Chairman.

You will also be working as part of our friendly and supportive clinical team of 3 Vets and 5 Registered Veterinary Nurses. The nursing team is especially well experienced and knowledgeable and provides an excellent level of service and support.

We have always promoted self-study and development of our colleagues here and the completion of the longer modular courses is encouraged. One of the nursing team has completed the ISFM certificate in Feline Nursing and another has just started the new Surgery modular course. If Partnership is your long-term goal, there is also an excellent opportunity for the right candidate with regards to becoming a JVP over the next few years.

We are a friendly practice and although we work hard, we get on very well as a team. We also have a lovely bunch of clients for the most part, many of whom are very keen to get the best for their pets and work together with us to achieve this. This means we can really use our veterinary knowledge and skill to the full.

Our ideal colleague will be a dynamic and proactive Veterinary Surgeon with a surgical or medical bias. You will have calm composed thinking and the ability to lead the clinical team where needed. Key to your success will be your ability to embrace all aspects of the role, delivering excellent patient and client care. You will be a strong team player and enjoy the variety the role will bring.

This is a full time role, 40 hours per week, and will include weekends on a rota basis, but no OOHs.

As you would expect from the market leader in small animal veterinary care we offer a great working environment together with career development opportunities, and benefits that include;

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • CPD allowance
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Paid memberships
  • No OOHs

  • If you share our passion for delivering outstanding pet healthcare, exceptional customer service and would like to join our team, then we would love to hear from you.
