This is a newly created role to establish a group wide Operational Procurement function within the Davies Group. Davies Group has grown, and continues to grow, rapidly through acquisition and has recently made the decision to build out a Group Procurement function, starting with the hire of a Head of Procurement. The focus of the newly created procurement function will be on 4 key elements:

  • Drive EBITDA cost improvement: Davies Group are private equity owned and as a result there is a strong emphasis on leveraging procurement to reduce costs and drive EBITDA
  • Build and implement a target operating model with respect to the procurement lifecycle, leveraging a strategic, proactive/forward facing approach, leading the business to address risk and opportunity
  • Procurement automation through source to pay systems such as Coupa or Ariba
  • Build out of a fit for purpose procurement function to support the business
  • To support the delivery of the above, a decision has been taken to create a role responsible for Operational Procurement across the group.

    Role Overview

    Davies Procurement is currently running a process to invest in a Procurement system such as Coupa, Ariba, iValua. The newly created Procurement Operations Dir will own this program and leverage to enhance Procurement Operations within the Davies Group.

    The role will report into the Head of Procurement and will be responsible for several key areas.

  • Product owner for the procurement system, responsible for operational performance as well as functionality roadmap
  • Own implementation of the system from a procurement standpoint (targeted for Jan 2023 and scheduled to run for 18-24 months)
  • Define procurement support model and line manage the team
  • Build out best in class process for Source to Pay
  • Objectives of the role

    The objective of the role will be to define and own the procurement strategy for Procurement Operations. This will be delivered through:

  • Deliver successful implementation of the selected procurement system
  • Define and implement operating strategy for procurement system to deliver: Automation and optimisation of processes and self-serve capability Robust ESG framework, including supplier onboarding and due diligence Leverage of catalogues and punch outs to support guided buying Drive and identify EBITDA cost reduction opportunities through system data Business reporting
  • Define and own supplier risk and ESG strategy
  • Key Responsibilities

    The role will have ultimate responsibility for:

  • Digital procurement strategy, including system implementation
  • Digital procurement, process and ESG SME
  • Process optimisation and automation
  • Line management and development of team
  • Demonstrating ROI of Operational Procurement
  • Skills required

  • Must have extensive experience of a Gartner top quadrant Procurement systems such as Coupa, SAP Ariba, iValua etc
  • Ideally has strong experience of implementing procurement systems
  • Business transformation: Ability to build functions from the ground up through defining the target operating model, then leading the business to implement
  • Autonomy: The role will be fully autonomous with the ideal candidate having the ability to work independently, responsible for setting strategy, gaining business buy-in at a senior level and delivering against this
  • C level engagement: Ability to communicate and engage at C level, both across the Davies business and with our private equity partners
  • Highly numerate: Capacity to operate in a number orientated quantitative manner, ensuring all strategies are data driven
  • Financially savvy: Understanding of financial and accounting modelling with respect to reporting P&L/ balance sheet impact of commercial agreements
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity: Ability to work in a green space where there is often no precedent or prescribed way of working
  • Contractual knowledge: Ability to understand and shape complex contracts to reduce risk and optimise offering
  • Process optimisation experience, including the ability to map the as is and define change required to implement best practice
  • Experience of managing vendor risk and ESG
  • Integrity: Acts always with integrity and transparency, both internally and with external suppliers
  • Strong team leader: Ability to lead and motivate a team in an inclusive manner, leading by example
