Summary of Role Purpose

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join our Project Management in Audit Centre of Excellence (PMinA CoE) capability. Our function supports audit engagement teams through the delivery of sustained project management and PMO services – enabling auditors to focus on audit execution, and therefore increasing audit quality and efficiency.

As a Project Manager, your role will be to provide leadership, guidance and innovation to the day-to-day running of audit engagements being delivered by KPMG. You will be responsible for establishing, running and evolving the team’s core project management capabilities, ensuring a focus around excellence in project management delivery, assurance and audit quality.

You and your team will provide the tools and capabilities to support the delivery of the engagement, as well as delivering project support and analysing data to assist management decision making and communication. You will also contribute to the ongoing improvement of project management products, services and processes through various internal continuous workstreams.

You’ll report to the Senior Project Manager for the Performance Group, and also have responsibility for supervising and performance managing junior team members. This will include imparting knowledge, skills and experience to support career development, coaching of team members and supporting the provision of best practice.

Description of the Role

  • Working with Engagement Leaders and Audit Managers, co-ordinating activities on the planning, scheduling and execution of audits to ensure KPMG planning requirements and deadlines are achieved, and Audit Quality standards and Service Level Agreements are met.
  • Ensuring effective audit governance through the regular reporting of audit progress, achievement of milestones, changes to agreed delivery plan and delivery risks/issues.
  • Holding Audit Managers/Senior Managers to account for the delivery of their audits.
  • Working with Audit Managers to optimise the use of resources, including KPMG Global Services (KGS) offshore staff, and improve efficiency in audit delivery.
  • Financial management, including budget preparation and ongoing oversight of engagement financials.
  • Developing strong, trusting and credible working relationships with senior staff on engagements, Performance Group Leadership and other key business stakeholders where applicable.
  • Implementing relevant systems and tools to support the delivery of work for the engagement.
  • Ensuring KPMG’s commercial processes are being effectively managed (WIP, Lock-up, over-runs, etc.)
  • Providing Project Management coaching support within the engagement and wider Project Management team.
  • Identifying opportunities to expand the provision of Project Management support to the Audit practice through effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Delivering project management support to ongoing continuous improvement workstreams.
  • Performance managing junior team members, ensuring that you are having rich development conversations that supports their growth and career progression.

This will include the timely identification, tracking and resolution of audit issues, internally & externally through working collaboratively with audit engagement stakeholders.
  • Engagement management : Supports the engagement leadership (RI, Engagement Manager(s)) in managing and executing the engagement in accordance with firm wide quality standards, milestones and budgets.
  • Documentation : Ensures completion of appropriate audit and engagement documentation relevant to role, demonstrating an unwavering focus on audit quality. This will include Project Management in Audit approved templates as defined in the Project Management in Audit Service Catalogue.

    Experience and Knowledge Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience and credibility in the successful delivery of demanding projects or programmes. (E)
  • Strong knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring, data analysis, reporting etc., including risk management. (E)
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrable use of project and programme management methodology and techniques. (E)
  • Stakeholder management experience, including identification of appropriate business development opportunities. (E)
  • Experience of performance managing teams, coaching and mentoring junior staff. (E)
