Job title: Mechanical Engineer (Fabrication and Installation)

An immediate vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer, with experience of fabrication in a manufacturing environment and site based installation. Working within a specialist manufacturing facility, consisting of prototyping and final build, you will support design & development teams in fabrication of equipment based on customer specifications.

Our Opportunity

This is a cell lead position with no direct reports the role has two elements, one being based at Crawley and one that covers installations of Thales equipment (mainly UK, with occasionally worldwide) in dockyard environments.

Crawley site work, responsible for work coming through the model shop area, applicants must be proficient with a variety of metalwork fabrication process. The type of work can include prototype builds where liaison with engineering is required and shop floor support to resolve issues to enable production to continue.

On site working, responsible for the organisation and safe working to access and install Thales equipment. Good metalwork hand skills needed for adjustment of equipment on site with limited equipment availability. May be required to commission equipment to the customer while on site. The split in location is approximately 75% based in Crawley and 25% on site.

Duties Crawley

  • Work load planning through Model shop
  • Provides feedback to Engineering team
  • Material supplier contact
  • Model shop 5S
  • Machinery maintenance
  • Define and coordinate sub contract special processes
  • Duties on site

  • Ensures compliance with health and safety legislation, ensures that installation activities will not affect the safety of anyone
  • Develop deployment strategy
  • Liaises with clients and with Acceptance / Integration / Commissioning team
  • About You

    As an experienced Mechanical (or Electro-Mechanical) Engineer, you have proven experience in a metal fabrication environment, need to be an all-rounder with regard understanding the entire process of fabrication. Previous experience working on site installing equipment is a distinct advantage ideally within a doc yard.
