We are looking for dynamic and passionate people to join our NCS team this summer as Wave Leaders. You will be an organised and confident person, able to engage and support up to 16 sessional staff and a cohort of up to 130 young people aged 15 to 17 through one or more intensive two week programme. This includes local skills workshops, social action activities and residential trips away from home.
This year the NCS Programme is two weeks and there is a possibility to work more than one.
Week 1: This week is delivered on a residential site on a full-time basis and takes place over five consecutive full-time days. The aim of the week is build positive relationships in the team, take young people outside their comfort zone through challenging activities and building on their personal and social development skills through a variety of engaging workshops focussed around employability, confidence, independent living etc.
Week 2 : In week 2 young people take part in a minimum of thirty hours in making a difference in their local community. They get to utilise their new found skills by tackling a project that they are passionate about and can take ownership of whilst building a network of local organisations. NCS is dedicated to providing a platform where young people can speak up and be empowered to be active citizens. The programme may only last 2 weeks but the life skills that you can give to young people will set them up for a lifetime.

We also have all year round sessional opportunities through delivery of a NCS Skills Booster programmes in schools and working with our dedicated NCS alumni Change Makers who continue to develop more sustainable social action projects.
As part of the role you will need to encourage, motivate and inspire teams to make the most of their NCS experience and help them to develop transferable skills for their future. Your main duties will include:
Lead, direct, encourage and motivate a seasonal staff team to facilitate young people completing all phases of the NCS programme, including pre-programme engagement, possibly 1 four-night-five-day residentials, social action planning & delivery and graduation events.
Assist the NCS Programme Lead to ensure all necessary and appropriate safeguarding, data handling, health & safety and other legal requirements are in place to protect NCS participants and staff.
Manage any safeguarding or health & safety incidents in line with Catch22 and NCS procedures.
Ensure all participant registers and relevant paperwork (including risk assessments, safeguarding reports and incident reports) are completed within agreed timelines and to a high standard
Support the NCS Workforce Team to deal with challenging behaviour from young people.
Engage and build positive relationships with young people and their parent/carers to provide effective support on a one-to-one or group basis to achieve NCS outcome targets.
Ensure programme content is relevant to the local community and builds on existing relationships with partner individuals and organisations in order to provide young people with a quality NCS experience, ensuring they learn community and citizenship values within their local environment.
Record daily activity across delivery of the local NCS programme, including participant contact and outcomes during the programme, and ensure these are fully up to date in time for regular reports to the Catch22 NCS national team.
Assist in ensuring in-kind funding opportunities are maximised and on or above target.
Carry out regular supervision sessions with seasonal staff and volunteers to enable all duties to be carried out effectively.
Attend regular supervision sessions with the NCS Programme Lead and compulsory training to enable all duties to be carried out effectively.
Manage a petty cash float to be used to support the running of the programme.
You will be required to work possibly 1 or more four-night-five-day residentials, during which you will be expected to undertake night duty on a rota basis.
To make sure that you read, are familiar with, and follow all Catch22 policies and procedures and to read and accept key Catch22 policies
To act as an ambassador for Catch22, upholding and promoting our corporate values.
To undertake any other duties which can be reasonably expected of you within the level of your job.
This post may involve overnight stays and it could also, in exceptional circumstances involve some evening and weekend working.

Substantial experience of working directly with young people from a wide variety of backgrounds
Experience of planning, delivery and evaluation of activities for and with young people
Experience of working in a residential setting with young people from a wide variety of backgrounds
Experience of supporting a staff team and/or volunteers
Experience and understanding of Health and Safety, Safeguarding and data handling practices
Knowledge of the NCS programme
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, orally and in writing
Ability to work on your own initiative to an agreed action plan
Ability to organise your own work routines effectively with a minimum of supervision and support
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy
