We have a great opportunity for an Undergraduate Geotechnical Engineer to come and join us for a summer placement for 3 months in our York or Birmingham office.

In this placement you will work alongside the office leads to support and organise on day-to-day activities and support organisation of workload across the wider Geotech group.

This is an exciting time to join SYSTRA Ltd as we continue to develop and raise our profile in the UK. We are working on prestigious projects, upgrading existing UK railway infrastructure and are heavily involved in the delivery of the High Speed 2 (HS2) project, connecting London to Birmingham.

Main Duties

  • Undertake research and investigations to develop a clear understanding of the ground conditions at a project site.
  • Plan, specify and manage site investigations and laboratory testing programmes.
  • Collate and analyse field and laboratory data and undertake analyses related to the project design.
  • Liaise with Systra engineers, clients and Project Engineers to develop project specific solutions.
  • Prepare detailed geotechnical reports.

  • A relevant degree in civil engineering or geology.
  • A knowledge of the typical ground conditions and geology of the United Kingdom.
  • The ability to anticipate and interpret ground conditions and to develop accurate ground models from site investigation and desk study information.
  • A knowledge of industry standard geotechnical software.
