We are looking for a Solicitor with working knowledge of adult social care, probate and estates to join us at West Sussex County Council.

Salary: £41, to £44,.
Working Pattern: Full-time (37 hours per week).
Contract Length: Permanent.
Location: County Hall, Chichester. Working from home with occasional travel into the office required.

In this role you will work within the debt recovery team, you will be taking over an existing caseload. Your primary focus will be to provide clear and balanced advice on all aspects of debt recovery. You will run a mixed case load, drafting and issuing court proceedings and, where applicable, making applications to the District Probate Registry to protect the Council’s interests as creditor and to secure the recovery of sums owed.

In the role you will ensure that early and timely advice is provided to maximise the Council’s prospects of successfully recovering sums owed from personal representatives, or third parties who may have intermeddled in the estates of deceased customers and identifying cases involving deprivation of assets.

    Key Skills:

  • Good drafting skills to write legal documents including bespoke drafting on complex or specialist matters.

  • Effective advocacy skills and the ability to present cases in a clear and concise manner.

    • Qualifications and/or experience:

  • Qualified solicitor.
  • Experience of debt recovery procedures, the administration of estates, the Civil Procedure Rules , the Debt Protocol and the Practice Direction on Pre-action Conduct.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering a quality customer focused service to others.
  • Significant experience in dealing with significant and diverse issues, working within the specialist field for the role.
  • Sound and accurate IT knowledge and proficiency with legal case management systems.
