I’m currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager to join a very busy and very prestigious main contractor for a 24-month contract.

This position will be responsible for implementing, managing and embedding the Health & Safety Standards throughout the duration of the project.

Your responsibilities:

  • Act as the project health and safety manager and co-ordinator, with the aim of assisting the Senior H+S Manager & the H+S Director to discharge their duties in respect of health and safety on site.
  • Provide practical and realistic monitoring, good practice advice and ensure basic legal compliance.
  • Liaise with the senior Health and Safety manager to seek advice or organise internal or external training.
  • Manages & mentors the H&S Advisor / Graduate
  • Conduct daily site inductions and review induction forms and competence cards.
  • Ensure that Supervisors daily completes Daily Safe Starts, issue permits.
  • Supervisor to hand the permit to the Senior H&S Manager at the start of the day and sign off at the end of the day.
  • Act as a hub for managing the process and assisting supervisors as necessary.
  • Walk the whole site at least twice each day and bring any unsafe condition to the attention of the relevant supervisor.
  • Where necessary immediately suspend any unsafe work practices and report situations to the Project Manager.
  • Undertake accident investigations and where necessary implement a Just & Fair consequence model.
  • Produce one written inspection report each day listing all unsafe conditions and assign appropriate managers to action within agreed timeframes.
  • Ensure that appropriate inspections are carried out in line with the project risk profile these include; hoarding, lifting, fire emergency and other statutory requirement.
  • Undertake joint inspections with members of the construction teams.
  • Contribute to the production of Ardmore method statements and risk assessments.
  • Site Managers to determine the method statement after consultation.
  • H&S Advisor to formulate the risk assessment and produce the document.
  • Ensure that these are briefed to the workforce.
  • Contribute to the review of Sub-contractor’s method statements along with the Site Managers
  • Ensure that Lifting Supervisors and Appointed Persons carry out their duties diligently.
  • Be responsible for maintaining Site Safety Files, including uploading to 4P.
  • Via an assistant ensure that signage on site is maintained and enhanced, and fire points are maintained in working condition.
  • Meet with the Project Manager formally on a weekly basis to discuss issues and receive briefing on the work ahead. Share regular subcontractors H&S meetings.
  • Set the Toolbox Talks topics for Supervisors to present to allsite personnel. Monitor the satisfactory delivery of the talks both in numbers and quality of presentation, including sitting in on one talk each week.
  • Monitor weekly hoarding inspections and temporary works
  • Work with construction teams to update the Construction Phase Plan and Fire and Emergency Plan on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that all roles identified in the plans are filled by appropriately trained and competent people and bring to the attention of the Project Manager any deficiencies identified.
  • Organise regular fire evacuations.
  • Organise a project health and safety award scheme and coordinate the Site Leadership Meetings.
  • Produce a monthly H&S overview report for inclusion in the project monthly report for the Client.

  • NEBOSH
  • NVQ Level 5 in H&S/NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice (for manager)
  • IOSH
  • For managers a minimum of 5 years’ experience in H&S or site related occupation
