Specialist Gastroenterology / Nutrition Support Dietitian
Band 6 
Permanent – Full time position  

This post will allow you to develop your skills and knowledge to provide (with support initially) an efficient and high quality specialised dietetic service to complex nutritional support patients (enteral and parenteral) and provide dietetic cover for the critical care unit in Team Leaders absence.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide effective dietetic treatment for a caseload of adult inpatients at Tameside General Hospital. This will be on a variety of wards including Gastroenterology. You will also be an integral member of the Upper GI MDT supporting patients from diagnosis throughout their treatment.

The post holder will mentor recently qualified dietitians, be involved with all aspects of provision for dietetic learners and provide training to other Healthcare Professionals,

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    Section 1: Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide a high quality, efficient Dietetic service to adult patients on a variety of wards including the Gastroenterology ward.
  • To provide knowledge and experience to assist less experienced dietitians manage their more complex patients in a safe and high quality way across surgical, medical and elderly care wards.
  • To meet competencies in assessing and treating complex and critical care patients and to cover the Unit in the Team Leaders absence once competencies met.
  • To participate in the training of other health professionals as agreed with team lead.
  • To cover clinics (critical care, outpatients or community) if required.

    knowledge and experience

    Essential criteria

  • HCPC registered
  • BSc (Hons)or post graduate diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Experience of nutrition support
  • Experience working with patients requiring artificial nutritional support such as naso gastric or gastrostomy feeding.
  • Excellent practical knowledge of the dietetic treatment of a range of conditions including oesophageal cancer, IBD, liver disease
  • Working knowledge of evidence based / best practice interventions
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience with gastro / upper GI cancer
  • Member of the BDA
  • Student assessment course
