Edward Moore House in Gravesend is currently recruiting for a suitably competent and qualified Head Cook to work 28 hours per week.

Main Duties and Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Taking full responsibility for the kitchen including staffing, budgeting, ordering stock, hygiene, food safety, the management of the team and the production of meals and refreshments in accordance with CQC standards and the requirements of The Organisation and to ensure the delivery of high quality nutritious meals to residents providing them with choice, within the budget allocated

The ideal Head Cook will demonstrate / evidence

  • Leadership and staff management skills; directive and supportive coaching, training, delegation
  • Evidence of appropriate qualification
  • Relevant experience in catering for large numbers and knowledge of food preparation and hygiene for older people
  • Awareness of cultural and dietary needs of individuals
  • Current knowledge of H&S legislation and application of H&S practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of COSHH regulations
  • Application of H&S practices with particular regard to catering equipment
  • Effective judgement about staffing difficulties, evidence gathering and ethics
  • Risk assessment practice
  • Good communication skills with different groups, e.g. staff, residents, local community
  • Understanding of different values / cultures of residents and staff
  • Team working skills
  • Good timekeeping skills
  • Professionalism

The ideal Head Cook will have the ability to:
