This role is offer as a 2 year fixed-term contract with possibility of extension to 3 years and the salary starts from £40,227 to £44,619 per annum based on working 36 hours per week.

To support the effective delivery of key projects as part of our LTP we are looking a Senior Transport Planner focussing on our Liveable Neighbourhoods scheme. This role will form part of an already established and well supported team looking to rethink and reshape what transport in Surrey.

The Role

We are looking for a highways and transport engineer/ or transport planner to join the team and provide technical knowledge and advice on the development and implementation of low traffic/ Liveable Neighbourhoods (LTN/LVNs) in line with the Local Transport Plan (LTP) and Local Cycling and Walking Improvement Plans (LCWIP) created against guidance from the Department for Transport.

 Key work for this role includes:

  • Working with county council colleagues and others from public and private sector organisations including commissioned consultants to deliver successful bids for low traffic/liveable neighbourhoods.
  • Developing these bids to a point where detailed design and construction can be passed to the county’s delivery team.
  • Influencing and communicating with a range of colleagues to successfully deliver a number of major highways and transport projects. You will act as project manager for one or more of our schemes ensuring they are managed effectively.
  • Developing Major Scheme Business Cases to bid for funding.
  • To be considered for this role you will need to evidence the following:

  • Educated to Masters Degree, Degree or NVQ qualification at level 5/6 in subjects such as Civil Engineering, Geography or Planning.
  • To hold or be actively working toward a professional qualification, with membership of a suitable professional body i.e. the RTPI, ICE, CIHT, IHE or TPS e.g. joining at IEng, TPP or equivalent level.
  • Knowledge, experience and ability to work with minimum supervision in the application of Transport and Highway and traffic policies/regulations and processes involved in the development of business cases and delivery of major highway and transport schemes.
  • Substantial experience of working in Transport Planning/Engineering and in line with the qualification requirements as required by professional bodies listed above.
  • Significant knowledge/experience of consultation and negation with external organisations e.g. involving the strategic Road Network and Rail.
