Paediatric Nurse
One Hatfield Hospital, Hertfordshire is looking for a high level Paediatric Registered Bank Nurse. We will consider job share for the role.
• To provide the highest standard of individualised family centred care as part of the clinical team, ensuring the comfort and safety of patients and families during their visit/admission to the hospital.
• To coordinate and support child and young peoples experience across all areas of the hospital including, outpatients, pre-assessment, day surgery and recovery.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and ensuring compliance in line with hospital policies, national guidelines and best practice standards.
• To work with the Lead Paediatric Nurse to develop the service and continually promote and maintain high standards of nursing practice.
• Deputise in absence of Lead Paediatric Nurse.
Paediatric Nurse
Hours
Across a rotational five day shift pattern including evenings/weekends. Flexibility required.
Qualifications
– Registered Child Nurse with NMC
Experience
– Clinical nursing experience in elective surgical care
– Proven ability to work independently and within a team
– Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience
Skills
– Demonstrable knowledge and skills and competency of required clinical practice.
– Comprehensive written, numerical and verbal communication skills
– Experience in computer skills using MS Office Suite and web based reporting systems
– Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the business
– Customer service skills
– EPALS (European Paediatric Advanced Life Support) certification is a requirement of the role. Training and support will be available if not held at time of appointment.
– Enthusiasm for cross functional working within clinical departments
– Understands and implements robust safeguarding practice and is confident in escalating and raising concerns
Desirables
– Experience in the private sector
– Experience in paediatric recovery
– Enhanced clinical skills; Phlebotomy, cannulation, ECGs would be an advantage.
Paediatric Nurse
Main Responsibilities of the Role
Provide pre and post operation care, assessing the needs of the patient, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care
Identify patient care requirements by establishing a rapport, providing emotional and psychological support to the child or young person and their family/carer
Provide healthcare advice, educating patients/family/carers on the condition, medications, self-care and health maintenance, answering any questions they may have
Carry out clinical nursing procedures, including administering medication, intravenous medication, assisting with procedures
Record and maintain accurate patient medical records and histories on the relevant care pathways, clinical forms and IT systems
Create customised care plans through working collaboratively with the child or young person, their family and other departments where required.
Effective and safe discharge planning
Participate in audit processes for monitoring nursing quality
Assist with establishing and monitoring care pathways, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards, making or recommending necessary adjustments
Report incidents and complaints via the Datix reporting module and escalate appropriately to senior member of staff if unable to resolve.
Accurate monitoring and recording of Paediatric Early Warning Scores and escalate appropriately
Maintain and practice comprehensive handover of patients between shifts, department and multidisciplinary team including external agencies.
