The Role:

This broad role supports two business development managers; one manager responsible for the Technology and Consumer sectors (Technology, Automotive and Communications, Media & Entertainment and Consumer Markets) with a particular focus on Intellectual Property, IT & Data, and a second manager responsible for dispute resolution and litigation which also includes competition and investigations.

The BDE will be supported in their day to day work by our growing EMEA MBD Services team in Newcastle, and will work in close cooperation with colleagues across our UK and global MBD teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assisting with all aspects of planning and development of business development activity and the targeting of marketing activity (all channels)
  • Working with the sector leadership team and BD Managers to plan and implement business plans, budget proposals and campaign plans for the EMEA region.
  • Implementing BD and marketing activity for the practice and sector. This includes, but is not limited to, business development, client development, profile raising, marketing and communications, pitching and event management.
  • Acting as a key point of contact and ambassador for the practice with the wider business, MBD and other key stakeholders
  • Establishing a close and effective relationship with the lawyers and partners within the sector and practice
  • Producing bespoke bids, pitches and other client development presentations/content (formal and informal)
  • Supporting client development plans and activities
  • Working closely with other MBD teams, for example, client relationship team, strategic bids, events, design and digital, and our expanding Newcastle Hub
  • Coordinating practice and sector directory submissions, credentials and marketing collateral production
  • Supporting the management of practice and sector MBD budgets, including reporting of ROI
  • Contributing and leading on best practice and being curious about the possible
  • Person specification:

  • Graduate calibre with demonstrable and/or professionally recognised marketing or communications qualification (such as CIM, etc)
  • Experience in marketing and business development is desirable, as is experience of working in a legal/professional services/partnership environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including good attention to detail
  • Confident and willing to take on additional responsibility as required
  • Highly organised with a professional, confident, collaborative and proactive approach to their role
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, multiple tasks and stakeholders
  • Experienced in managing and writing bids
  • Understands the need and has the ability to manage expectations
  • A genuine interest in the Technology and Consumer sectors
