The School of Archaeological and Forensic Sciences is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated person to join us as Lecturer or Assistant Professor in Forensic Biology and make significant contributions to our teaching and research in forensic science. The ideal candidate will have professional expertise in forensic science, experience in giving evidence in court and be fully conversant with Forensic Science Quality Standards. A PhD qualification is desirable, although not essential, if the candidate has sufficient casework experience. Experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level is desirable. Please note this role will be appointed to at Grade 8 (Lecturer) or Grade 9 (Assistant Professor), dependent on experience.  You will be expected to deliver an excellent teaching and learning experience to students at all levels and take leadership roles during the tenure of your employment. We are looking for experience of delivering training in laboratory forensic science, an ability to teach topics including the broad range of forensic biology including DNA analysis, body tissues and fluids, application of statistics and databases (including Bayesian approaches) to forensic science, presentation of forensic evidence in court, quality management in delivery of forensic science practice including use of quality manuals, SOPs and operating under ISO17025. We would like the successful candidate to complement rather than overlap with existing staff expertise in forensic taphonomy, human osteology, bone chemistry and human and animal osteology. We would not exclude a specialism such as forensic entomology, but the successful candidate should be capable of teaching across a broad remit. The successful candidate should be conversant with professional working principles from the UK, including role of Home Office Forensic Science Regulator and the structure of forensic science delivery within England and Wales. The successful candidate will be expected to broaden the range of practical research projects available to undergraduate and masters students. 

The School of Archaeological and Forensic Sciences provides a supportive and developmental environment to all academic staff. There is a tradition of co-operation and interdisciplinary research, our facilities range from a dedicated field station on Oxenhope Moor, taphonomy laboratory (refurbished summer 2022) indoor crime scene facility, forensic examination laboratory (teaching) as well as X-radiography, CT, Micro-CT, ESEM, HP-LC, GC-MS, FT-IR, FT-Raman which are used both for research, student teaching and final year research projects.
