Lincolnshire Registration & Celebratory Service is looking to appoint Relief Celebrants to work out of various offices around the county. The hours will be varied according to the needs of the service and maybe worked any day of the week (Monday-Sunday), including bank holidays, at any one of the Registration Offices and Licensed Venues located across the county.
Lincolnshire Registration & Celebratory Service delivers marriage, civil partnership and celebratory ceremonies at a range of licensed venues throughout the county of Lincolnshire, including historical landmarks, tourist attractions and beautiful stately homes – some of our venues recognisable from TV and cinema!
These are varied and rewarding roles that require stamina and organisation skills. We need colleagues with enthusiasm, confidence and sensitivity to work as Relief Celebrants
Flexibility and availability to work at short notice are essential to the post. Initial training will be given but candidates will also receive updated training on procedures and legislative changes to marriages/civil partnerships as necessary. Please note that the workload is heaviest between May and September inclusive.
The duties will primarily involve registering and conducting marriages and civil partnerships along with other celebratory events such as naming and renewal of vows and citizenship ceremonies, at Registration Offices, Licensed Venues and other outside venues. The issuing of certificates and assisting in the promotion of the service is also a requirement of the role. In addition the postholder may be required to write eulogies and prepare and conduct civil funeral ceremonies.
What we are looking for
Applicants should have a good standard of education. They will also be required to demonstrate an understanding of excellent customer care in line with our Customer Service Excellence standards and enjoy working with the public. Excellent communication skills will also be required. You will be required to travel to undertake the duties of this role.
Under The Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Regulations 1968 the following people are disqualified from being a registrar:
– Non Discharged Bankrupt
– Authorised Person, Secretary of Synagogues or Registering Officer for Society of Friends
– Minister of Religion
– Medical Practitioner, Midwife, undertaker or person involved in the burial or cremation business
– Anyone engaged in the business of life insurance.
