Summer Call Handlers

Articulate and empathetic individuals needed to join Devon &Cornwall Police as part of their summer call handling team. Multiple positions available based from the Exeter Police HQ from mid June until early September.

You will be working a shift pattern covering 7 days a week (hours between hrs – hrs). This position will require flexibility but is an excellent opportunity to gain experience within Devon & Cornwall Police.

Responsibilities:

  • Handling inbound telephone calls, providing information, guidance and advice to a range of queries from members of the public
  • Accurately recording details of conversations
  • Making fast decisions under pressure using the National Decision Model (NDM) to assess Threat, Harm, Risk, Investigation, Vulnerability and Engagement (THRIVE)
  • Dealing appropriately with callers who may be distressed, emotional, vulnerable, drunk, suicidal or in crisis and decide on the right course of action
  • Requirements:

  • Excellent keyboard skills (able to capture critical information and record it accurately)
  • Excellent oral, listening and communication skills
  • Previous call centre, customer service or control room experience highly advantageous
  • Emotional resilience when handling disturbing or difficult evidence, circumstances etc.
