The Department of Computer Science is seeking to recruit a highly qualified Lecturer in Computing. The person appointed will have an undergraduate degree and a PhD in Computer Science (or a related area) and will have postdoctoral experience. Candidates must have a track record of high-quality peer-reviewed, international outputs.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate evidence of successful undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in computing with expertise in one or more of the following themes:

  • System modelling and simulation, Internet of Things, cyber physical systems.
  • Computer organisation and architecture, operating systems, networks, web services.
  • Databases, data analytics, statistical modelling.
  • User experience design, information architecture, software engineering.
  • A familiarity with the industrial IT environment is desirable. The ability to travel abroad to deliver teaching in overseas partner institutions is also desirable.

    The post-holder will have effective communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, be committed to the development of themselves and others and supportive of equal opportunities. They will be able to work as part of a team and interested in contributing to novel approaches to research and teaching.

    The School of Computing and Engineering promotes research development and provides a research- supportive environment. Collectively, the School has secured over £25M in external funding from UKRI and Horizon 2020.

    Research in the Department of Computer Science covers an international portfolio and is headed by world leading researchers working within a number of research centres, including the Centre for Planning, Autonomy and Representation of Knowledge (PARK), the Centre for Cyber Security (CCS), the Centre for Industrial Analytics (CIndA) and the Centre for Mathematics and Data Science.

    The Department of Computer Science holds a framework agreement with CERN (https://home.cern/about), the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, which facilitates working together on world-leading research projects, including the development of specific Artificial Intelligence technologies for edge processing of scientific data in real time. The department has opportunities for academic staff and PhD students to conduct research in this area.
