This is an exciting opportunity to join the School of Health and Social Care, which is a diverse school, with world leading researchers who are experts in psychology, public health, and osteopathy. This is a research assistant (RA) position within this school. The RA will work on a feasibility study, as well as a systematic review. 

This is a project funded by the Osteopathic Foundation, which aims to explore whether there are any positive heart rate variability outcomes, and reduction in mental health outcomes for individuals with mild to moderate anxiety and depression. The outcomes of this project are to develop a systematic review and carry out a feasibility study in line with the MRC framework. 

The position will require the successful candidate to:

  • To develop and write up independently a systematic review.
  • To run a feasibility study (complete ethics form), recruit participants and carry out quantitative measures as well as qualitative interviews.
  • To conduct analysis on data of the feasibility (both qualitatively and quantitatively).
  • To support write up of the feasibility outcomes.
  • To repost to the PI of the project.
  • Pro-actively contribute to and conduct research, including gather, prepare and analyse data, generate original ideas and present results.
  • Prepare reports, draft patents and papers describing the results of the research, both confidential and for publication.
  • Be self-motivated, apply and use their initiative, aiming to determine suitable ways to tackle challenges and seeking guidance when needed.
  • Interact positively and professionally with other collaborators and partners within the College and elsewhere in the University and beyond as appropriate such as in academia.
  •  We are looking for candidates with the following essential criteria:

  • PhD in quantitative or qualitative research methods, or related science discipline.
  • Evidence of the ability to actively engage in and contribute to writing and publishing research papers, particularly for refereed journals.
  • A demonstrable ability to conduct research in line with the objectives of the project
  • Evidence of planning skills to contribute to the research project
  • Experience with psychology studies and outcome measures
  • Ability to work independently and carry out a systematic review and feasibility study
