Job summary

The postholder will be part of the Children and Parent service (CAPS), working within the Parent Infant Mental Health arm of the service in Manchester. The service consists of a team of clinical psychologists; specialist PIMHS Health Visitors and mental health practitioners alongside parent group leaders employed within the voluntary sector. We work as part of the integrated Infant mental health pathway, which includes IAPT adult mental health practitioners, specialist perinatal teams, midwifery, health visiting and Homestart to ensure infants are well supported through their important relationships in the early years. We are looking for a Senior Clinical Psychologist who is able to join the team to work effectively and autonomously within this multi-agency context offering both clinical work, supervision, training and consultation; and is be able to drive service development forward.

CAPS has a 20+ year proven track record of successful re-commissioning with our most current commission being offered for 5 years from 2021. We are also integral to Manchester’s Best Start for Life offer and are about to receive significant investment in relation to the PIMHS and Parenting aspects of this government funding, with Manchester being afforded Trailblazer status. CAPS has received both local and international awards for service excellence, and our PIMHS lead regular presents on a national forum in relation to service development.

Main duties of the job

Are you a Clinical Psychologist passionate about working with parents and infants supporting building sensitive, responsive parent-infant relationships? Are you interested in working in and developing an expanding service, alongside local colleagues and partners working with young children and parents? If you are enthusiastic about helping this important client group, at a time of national developments for parents and infants, then this post will be an excellent opportunity for you.

You will have experience of working with young children and their families in the perinatal period who present with a range of relationship and social / emotional development needs and risk. It would be essential to have skills and experience in supporting infants and their parents in the early years to develop good attachment relationships through challenging times, using evidence-based interventions.

You will autonomously manage your own caseload, providing a range of high-quality care appropriate to the infant, young child and parent’s needs; within professional practice guidelines and a structured supervision framework. You must be confident and experienced in communication and consultation.

This post is a clinical post and includes training and offering consultation to other workers contributing and working with a multi-agency team
