Job summary

The NHS Race and Health Observatory (the Observatory) is an independent organisation, set up to explore ethnic inequalities in access to healthcare, experiences of healthcare, health outcomes.

As the Director: Implementation, you will work closely with the Chief Executive and provide leadership on the implementation operations of the Observatory.

Main duties of the job

The Director will think laterally, build strong trusted relationships quickly (including with national and international bodies), and work as a productive senior member of the organisation.

The post holder will bring leadership on, and an appetite for, implementation science, evidenced-based solutions, and have an ability to understand new subjects rapidly.

  • Extensive experience in leading the delivery of complex health and care-related implementation projects and programmes working alongside senior clinical and operational professionals. Leadership experience including leading, developing and motivating successful teams, and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Record of working collaboratively with senior leaders across partner organisations, including at national and international levels, to build coalitions and achieve shared goals.
  • Deep knowledge of contemporary health, race and equality policy, service delivery challenges and the wider NHS.
  • Commitment to focus on quality to promote high standards, and to consistently improve resident, patient and workforce outcomes.
  • Commitment to implementation in the area of tackling ethnic and racial inequalities in health and healthcare.
  • Proven experience of establishing and leading on national strategic work in relation to policy development, operations, and systems.
  • Experience of working with press and media.
  • Ability to work autonomously without supervision, making decisions.
