2023 is set to be an exciting year for Westminster Abbey, with The King’s Coronation just around the corner and embarking on the next step in the Abbey’s digital transformation journey. With already an award-winning website and social media presence, the transformation will see this expand, to create a truly digital encounter with the Abbey’s life and mission for everyone around the globe to interact with and enjoy.

The Role:

The digital Abbey is a new concept and is a key part of a contemporary approach to building a community of people engaging regularly with the Abbey beyond its physical walls.

Westminster Abbey seek a new Head of Communications & Digital.

The successful candidate will lead a major strategic project for the Abbey to extend its mission digitally, driving cultural, digital and technical transformation. There are clear ambitions for the Abbey’s digital presence to encompass an entire ecosystem of interconnected offerings in support of their mission.

Communications:

The Head of Communications & Digital will:

· Lead the Abbey’s communications function, developing relationships of trust with relevant media (press and magazine industry, film, television and radio) and advising senior Abbey colleagues on media issues.

· Develop and implement a comprehensive external and internal communications strategy and co-ordinate issues throughout the Abbey, ensuring they are proactive and delivered through the most appropriate media.

· Prepare and keep up to date agreed communication contingency plans for crisis management information and be responsible for handling all external communications in the event of a crisis.

Digital:

The Head of Communications & Digital will:

· Have responsibility for all aspects of the Digital Abbey project, working closely with the Receiver General, Deputy Receiver General and Steering Group to create the Digital Ecosystem in all of its facets.

· Devise and deliver a Digital strategy to meet the needs of Westminster Abbey and its associated organisations.

· Lead a high-level discussion of technical requirements for the Abbey’s digital platforms with a range of stakeholders across the Abbey.

· Be responsible for supplier discussions and procurement exercises which result in cost effective, value-for-money purchases of products and services.

· Develop and implement digital products ensuring that they fulfil the objectives and KPIs agreed with Dean and Chapter and the Board for the Digital Abbey Programme.

The preparation, control and management of the Communications and Digital budget for the Abbey will be the responsibility of this person.
