An exciting opportunity has developed for a new ward manager to join the team at Newham University Hospital, part of Barts Health.

Silvertown ward is a24 bedded ward specializing in care of the older person. We are looking for a current ward manager or an aspiring junior sister/ charge nurse to lead this team on a permanent bases and also continue the excellent work the team are doing on the ward.

You will be supported by the Senior Nurse and Matron for the directorate and will have a team of established Junior Sisters/ Charge Nurses to assist you in leading the ward. There is also a directorate Practice Development Nurse and close links with the dementia and delirium team.

As part of Barts health, there is also a wealth of training and development opportunities available to the successful applicant.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the provision and delivery of care to older people and general medical patients.

They will be consultant linked and manage a caseload of patients throughout the patient journey.

The post holder must be clinically credible to ward based nursing staff and medical colleagues demonstrating expert practice and consistent, advanced clinical skills and knowledge.

The post holder will function as an autonomous practitioner providing an expert level of care, including advanced assessment of patients and the initiation of treatment and investigations as required.

They will maintain effective communication between the clinical areas; all relevant staff as well as patients and their relatives utilising a variety of means, including accurate documentation.
