As a highly skilled Radiographer with significant plain film experience, you will provide a caring, compassionate approach within our high quality imaging team. You will need to liaise with the Team Leaders to ensure appropriate training is delivered to other staff as required.

The post holder will have a flexible approach to their working life as we run a 7 day service. This is a pan site role with primary responsibility for our Fenland sites (Doddington Community Hospital, Princess of Wales Hospital, Ely and North Cambridgeshire Hospital). Participation in the out of hour’s service is expected which involves daytime weekend duties.

Main duties of the job

Produce high quality diagnostic images and provide high quality patient care to the service users adhering to national guidelines and taking into account relevant legislation including,but not limited to, the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) 2017 and the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17).

The post holder will participate in all areas of the clinical rota which is focussed on plain film radiographer working independently and unsupervised. The ability to prioritise the workload is essential. Provide leadership, motivation and training for junior staff.

Technical/Scientific:

  • Undertake tasks in all areas of the department in line with departmental protocols.

This includes:

  • Providing a high quality clinical and technical radiological service.
  • Implementing diagnostic procedures in line with department protocols.
  • Provide a specialist clinical technical service implementing specialist diagnostic radiography procedures as per advanced practice.
  • Using professional and highly developed physical skills to manipulate equipment with narrow margins for error.
  • Position patients using dexterity, co-ordination, and sensory skills and where appropriate achieve intravenous access and administration of medicines in accordance with department protocols.
  • Ensuring all necessary documentation pertaining to radiography is completed.
  • Ensuring all radiographs are correctly identified and managed in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Operation and maintenance of radiography equipment according to established protocols.
  • Use specialist skills to judge radiation exposure parameters in complex cases.
  • Follow and implement the red dot system for Accident and Emergency/Minor Injury Unit cases. The post holder will use their clinical expertise and exercise clinical judgement to interpret appendicular and axial radiographs and give expert advice and disseminate knowledge, in the form of a written comment, to assist the clinician in order to make the best medical diagnosis. The post holder may also discuss individual cases with the clinician face to face.
  • Participate in research within the department as required.
