An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as an inpatient Specialist Grade psychiatrist in the central inpatients CBU. We are looking for enthusiastic psychiatrists to join a newly developed model of working across inpatient services. Each ward will have two consultants working into each ward to provide a well-balanced job, allowing protected time for supporting professional activities and overall better job satisfaction and patient satisfaction.

The Specialist Grade Post will work alongside the Consultants to support assessment and management of patients given the increasing demand for the service and to ensure flow through the ward is maintained.

Each post will involve working into an acute inpatient ward providing medical leadership alongside a full time consultant psychiatrist to lead the care and treatment of patients admitted to the inpatient unit. The post holder will work with another fulltime consultant psychiatrist and MDT including a medical assistant, clinical nurse specialist, psychologist, OT, a middle grade doctor and junior medical staff. The post holder will be one of the senior clinical experts from a medical perspective to ensure best practice care is delivered and support the team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with the Consultant Psychiatrist to provide care and treatment for a caseload of inpatients The candidate must be Section 12 approved and be keen to work towards Approved Clinician Status.

The role involves being a clinical supervisor for a full time specialty doctor and junior doctors on the ward including a core trainee and foundation doctor.

The post holder will be responsible for providing mental health tribunal reports and attendance at MHATribunal hearings to give evidence as required.

You will be an essential member of the ward leadership team, leading on clinical governance and ongoing service development work.

The post holder will work closely with other consultants in the service and provide cross cover for annual and study leave. You will be required to attend consultant meetings fortnightly with the associate medical director for the service to keep up to date with trust developments
