An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated person to lead the scrub team and support the new day surgery unit in Main Theatres. We are seeking an experienced, qualified professional with excellent scrub skills and up to date knowledge in Trauma & Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, General Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Urology, Ophthalmic, and Emergency Surgery.

You will have the motivation, vision and leadership qualities necessary to lead a successful scrub team. As a key member of the senior team, you will deliver high standards of perioperative care, and have the ability to support and develop scrub practitioners/nurses to facilitate excellent patient care in the day surgery and theatre department.

The post holder will be expected to work closely with the day surgery team and day surgery manager to run an efficient effective service in the new procedure room and improve the efficiency of the main theatre suite. They will cover in the absence of the day surgery unit manager.

You must be a Registered Nurse (NMC) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) with a proven experience and training record within the scrub in above offer excellent educational opportunities from in-house study courses to post graduate education.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be responsible for the management of the theatre scrub and anaesthetic staff and resources within the procedure room in day surgery suite. S/he will work with Day Surgery Clinical Lead, Theatre Manager, Theatre Matron, and other Theatre/DSU/Recovery team leaders to ensure relevant standard are maintained at all times.
  • S/he will work flexibly as required between the day surgery suite and main theatre, and will work clinically as scrub or anaesthetic as required.
  • The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide the highest quality of care possible for our patients. S/he will aim to maintain patient’s confidentiality, dignity, personal and religious beliefs at all times.
  • The post holder will be responsible to provide a safe and caring environment for patients and staff in scrub and anaesthetic area of the procedure room.

The theatre suite consists of a pre assessment suite, a day surgery suite and a new day surgery unit with a procedure room, seven theatres and a recovery suite. It is a very busy department, undertaking emergency and elective surgery both adult and paediatric. We undertake general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, colorectal surgery, gynaecological surgery, breast surgery and opthalmic surgery.

All the theatre/recovery and day surgery staff work as a cohesive team to respect the privacy and dignity of all the patients and ensure a high quality of care is given.
