Job summary

The successful applicant will be expected to work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team on William Gull Ward and to support the ward manager with the day to day running of the ward.

As a senior staff nurse you will be expected to role model Trust values and behaviours, and demonstrate professionalism, positivity and enthusiasm at all times.

Applicants should be competent in cannulation, venipuncture and IV administration along with the care of complex respiratory patients, including those with tracheostomies or needing high flow oxygen.

The band 6 must be able to multi task under pressure and support other nursing staff alongside student nurses and junior doctors.

The band 6 will coordinate on their shift supporting the ward manager through implementing huddles, safety standards, audits, appraisal, team learning, incident reporting and answering and educating new and existing staff.

The successful candidate is required to work well as part of a team and independently, continually striving to improve and deliver a high standard of care to our large cohort of patients.

  • Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care.
  • Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. This includes history taking, physical examination and the requesting of agreed diagnostic procedures/clinical investigations.
