This is a unique opportunity to be part of a team developing and integrating the Cardio-Pulmonary Exercise Testing (CEPT) service and the Fit4Surgery prehabilitation service.

The UHL ITAPS CPET service has been established for 10 years and continues to grow to support increasing demand for objective measurement of patients’ fitness, including the link to prehabilitation. The Fit4Surgery services supports people preparing for major cancer and orthopaedic surgery and has been running since February 2020.

This role will develop Physiologist-delivered CPET clinics, manage the service and have a role in managing the Prehabilitation service.

The successful applicant will have a proven track record of managing and developing physiologist-delivered clinical services and excellent clinical physiology skills. The role will support you to enhance your skills as a clinical practitioner by working within the CPET and Prehabilitation department.

Main duties of the job

The role will require detailed knowledge and skills regarding technical delivery of CPET testing, equipment management, exercise testing in clinical populations and clinical interpretation. A broad foundation and experience in patients with a range of cardiac and respiratory diseases is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will already have these skills or have a professional background such that they are likely to be acquired quickly in role, for example a senior / chief respiratory or cardiac physiologist. Applicants will have BSc Clinical Physiology or equivalent, and HCPC registration, RCCP or AHCS registration (or eligibility to join) is desirable. Practical service management and development skills, along with teaching and staff supervision are also key to the role.

The successful candidates would be supported to undertake appropriate training and development opportunities. This post has the potential to develop and would suit a dynamic, motivated individual with a background in relevant clinical care.

The role requires travel across Leicestershire and a flexible approach to working environment as the project utilises facilities at local authority leisure centres and the National Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine (Loughborough University).
