The role is varied and dynamic; you will to lead in recruiting and developing a multidisciplinary CYPCN Team that engages across multiple health care partners. You will enable creative ideas and perspectives to help develop the Team, whilst prioritising effectively to support the clinical and operational demands of the Service. You will have previous clinical, operational and patient focused expertise within Children Services, alongside proven and compassionate leadership skills, and be able to promote and work within a culture of innovation and quality improvement that supports Children, Young People and their families to remain at home.

We are delighted to offer this post to support the delivery of the CYPCN Team in the Crawley area. As a Registered Nurse (Child) , you will work alongside clinical and operational colleagues to provide operational delivery of the team which focuses on the clinical and associated public health nursing of children & young people & families across West Sussex, in particular Crawley and surrounding areas.

Main duties of the job

The Team Lead will be responsible for leading a CYPCN team based in the Crawley locality, ensuring a consistent service is delivered across the locality by allocating cases to attain equitable workloads. You will contribute to the development of the Sussex countywide CYPCNS together with other senior nurses, ensuring policy and practice is developed and delivered in line with Trust and national best practice standards. The Team Leader will have a key role in performance management for the delivery of the service, including the responsibility for day to day line management of the locality team, including authorising leave and travel expenses.

You will promote the health and wellbeing of children, young people and their families and ensure the provision of high quality, safe nursing care to children and families on the caseload. You will work closely with other health professionals within the Trust and across the health economy, as well as across statutory and third sector agencies. Practitioners at this level will assume responsibility for planned teaching of nurses and health care assistants, associate practitioners and students, and will ensure the mentorship and supervision of students. It is expected that post holders will support students as a mentor assessor/ practice assessor for student nurses on pre-registration programmes.

The role supports and deputises for the Band 8a Matron role, working alongside the Services Practice Development Nurses. The role is to ensure the smooth operational delivery of the service, working across professional and clinical disciplines, aligning quality standards and clinical governance strategies with operational performance;

Work collaboratively with the Clinical Leads and Practice Development Nurses to support and direct the team, and provide day-to-day operational leadership, participating in the 7 days a week service delivery in alignment with other team members. Work with other Sussex Childrens Teams, Clinical Leads, Service Matrons, the Practice Development Nurses and the General Managers to enhance and develop the service in response to identified needs for the benefit of children & their families according to best practice guidelines and SCFT governance.

Support and educate the teams nursing and operational staff, offering direction and leadership surrounding delivery of care for the Teams caseload and continual professional development. Lead and manage the delivery of high quality nursing care. Provide support, information and advice, for the management of the caseload, ensuring that appropriate resources are available to assist in providing and delivering this care.

Maintain excellent communication channels with service users and stakeholders. Engage in flexible, cross boundary partnership working including the child / young persons family/carer at each stage of their care journey, to develop seamless service provision and admission / discharge pathways for the delivery of safe quality care.

Develop, implement and review clinical protocols, standard operating procedures, and performance data with the Services Clinical leads, to support and assist in the delivery of safe care and best nursing practice. Support nursing placements for pre and post registration nursing students and facilitate evidenced and research based learning and practice. Engage with new starters to the team to ensure they are supported and encouraged.

Develop expertise within the team, ensuring the relevant clinical skills required for management of childrens health needs are maintained. Provide teaching regarding the use of equipment and treatment regimes in the community for children, families/carers and staff involved. Ensure there is concise and accurate documentation of care interventions, including telephone advice and support which are documented and recorded via SystmOne.

Act as an expert resource and role model of childrens community nursing specialist practice to all other professionals and work colleagues. Attend Specialist Clinical interest groups both within the Trust, locally and nationally to develop and contribute towards establishment of expert clinical practice standards.

Be flexible; you may be required to work anywhere in Sussex or Brighton and Hove in order to meet the needs of the commissioned service.
