Job summary

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Band 6 or Band 7 nurse to gain valuable experience in supporting children with life limiting conditions and their families in the community.

Jessie May is a Children’s Hospice at Home service supporting children and families with Life Limiting and Life threatening conditions from the point of diagnosis through to the end of life and in bereavement.

You will lead a team of nurses who are all passionate and committed to the work they do to enable children to remain at home and to support families to cope with the very many challenges they face.

We currently provide our children’s hospice at home services across, Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire (BNSSG), Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon & Wiltshire (BSW).

We work very closely with local health providers including: University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust Teams, the Childrens Hospice Southwest service based at Charlton Farm, Lifetime Community Children’s Nursing Service, Continuing Care Teams and the BNSSG and BSW Integrated Care Boards.

It is essential therefore that you are committed to involving children and families at every level of the organisation and in developing strong partnerships with other service providers.

You will also have the opportunity to represent Jessie May and to influence policy and practice both locally and nationally through involvement in working groups and other forums.

Main duties of the job

You will be an experienced nurse and will lead the team working with parents to redesign and develop our service responding to the needs of children and young people living with Life limiting conditions.

The post holder will be a skilled communicator, comfortable at working and presenting both orally and in writing. She/he will be equally able to communicate and listen to experienced and junior nursing staff, volunteers and students as well as with children with life limiting conditions and their families. She/he will also represent the organisation externally to other stakeholders and partners. Internally she/he will communicate with fundraising staff to provide information to support fundraising and marketing and applications to donors.

Together with the Care Team Leaders, she/he will play an active role within practitioner forums for children’s palliative care throughout the South West.

She/he will frequently be handling sensitive confidential information both at a patient level and at an organisational level and thus will require to adhere to the highest standards of confidentiality and integrity.

You will work collaboratively with local organisations to support the ambition and Jessie May strategy to develop and deliver 24 / 7 End of Life care in the community.
