Job summary

We are looking for a deputy service line manager to support the growing SDEC services within acute medicine. The role will be to work alongside the current operational lead to support the implementation and continuation of virtual wards and to provide management of the Acute GP service within the acute assessment unit.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and ‘At Risk’ status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

As we move towards a new era of integrated care and working collaboratively across organisational boundaries, the need for dynamic, focused clinical leadership is vital. The key parts of the role are to support the development of various virtual clinical remote monitoring pathways and support clinical teams and hospitals to understand the benefits of Virtual Wards therefore embedding it as a safe alternative to inpatient treatment. The acute GP service is a team of GPs providing alternatives to hospital admission and clinical assessment in various settings across UHP. Candidates should therefore have proven management skills including effective people management and budgetary experience within the public sector.

The successful applicant will work closely with the virtual ward manager, Acute GP clinical lead and the AAU operational manager as well as key stakeholders including primary care, community services, acute hospital services and others to develop services. Demonstrable understanding of service improvement and experience of working in an acute hospital environment and or health community setting are essential.

Delivery of digitally enabled care (virtual care) including virtual wards is a national priority embedded within current health and social care policy.

The post holder will assist in the strategic development of the designated services within the service lines and sub-specialities including Virtual ward, Acute GPs service and AAU functions. There will be an expectation that the post holder is available to work weekends and evenings where required.

The post holder is responsible for the safety, quality and efficiency of delegated clinical services and will lead the improvement, planning, delivery and developments of the services to achieve operational performance and financial obligations.
