About our Team

The Lancet Production team looks after all aspects of page layout and print production of The Lancet titles. The team consists of Production Editors, Production Assistants, Illustrators, Quality Controllers, a Production Controller, and managers. This is a friendly, supportive, and encouraging team.

About the Role

We are looking for a Production Editor to be responsible for all aspects of page layout. This includes layout of text and graphics, editorial styling and text/figure corrections. Working on the world’s leading global health journals. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work to strict deadlines while maintaining the highest possible standards of accuracy and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Producing page layout for The Lancet journals
  • Inputting editorial corrections into existing layouts and illustrations
  • Occasional text and table styling
  • Ensuring the Lancet journal files are sent to the correct place, in the required formats at the time scheduled
  • Formulating creative solutions regarding layout and redesigns within the journals and also with regard to any amendments to working practice
  • Designing of other TL products as and when required (eg, The Lancet special issues)
  • Attending regular meetings with Assistant Editors to ensure workflow is as effective as possible for all departments
  • Working as a team with the Senior Production Editors

Requirements

  • InDesign (preferred) or QuarkXpress
  • Sound knowledge of page layout
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat an advantage
  • Knowledge of InCopy and QPS/Woodwing/Smart Connection an advantage
