Main duties of the job

This post would be suitable for any trainee who has completed core medical training or can demonstrate equivalent competencies. The post would offer excellent experience for doctors planning a career in geriatric medicine or general medicine. We can offer a wide range of subspecialty experience in geriatric medicine and educational opportunities to support professional development.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will be expected to participate and provide medical leadership in the absence of their consultant at all board rounds, ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings on their Post-Acute Medical ward. He/she will be expected to help organise and support the junior staff in the day-to-day running of the ward. He/she will be expected to ensure discharge summaries are appropriately completed by junior staff detailing ongoing plans and handover of care, they will also help coordinate discharge planning for all patients. The post holder will be expected to participate in clinical governance activities on the ward including infection control and antibiotic audits. He/she will also be expected to help deliver teaching and training to more junior colleagues including MRCP PACES teaching. He/she will be expected to deliver teaching and training to year 5 medical students attached to the ward. All of this will be under direct supervision of the attending Consultant and as such is a very supported role.
