Whose primary objective is to be accountable for the safe and effective delivery of the highest quality non clinical support services, for the achievement of all relevant national, local, Trust and Divisional objectives/targets, and for the successful implementation of agreed strategic priorities in our effort to make our Trust ‘outstanding’.

As the General Manager – Facilities you will have responsibility for services on our Bristol sites, covering Cleaning, Catering & Portering

The ideal candidate that would excel in this role will have:

  • Have significant facilities operational management.
  • Experience in a leadership role.
  • A track record of financial management including planning and balancing budgets and holding others to account for the same.
  • Change management experience across a large and complex staff group.
  • Service Improvement experience including use of recognised techniques.
  • Sound understanding of healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrable staff management skills including communication, delegation, and an understanding of basic terms and conditions of employment.
  • Possession of an up-to-date knowledge of facilities services including legislation/guidelines relating to all aspects of facilities.

Main duties of the job

No day will be the same in this role, but on a typical day you will:

  • Provide strong leadership in order to recruit and retain high quality staff, generating an effective team working and engaging staff in decision making.
  • Demonstrate robust contract management and negotiation skills and be expected to lead from an operational perspective on the letting of key trust wide non-clinical contracts
  • You will be a full member of the Divisional Board and be expected to deputise for the Associate Director Facilities at Performance and Finance Reviews with Trust Executives.
  • You will be a key member of the Divisional operational management team and will contribute to the overall management and strategic development of the division.
  • There will be regular opportunity to represent the Division on Trust-wide groups and the post will also carry a requirement to deputise for the Divisional Associate Director Facilities, as and when required.
  • You will lead on service development, improvement and modernisation, working across Facilities and Estates and as required clinical and infection control teams.
  • Provide expert specialist facilities guidance and support
  • There will be joint accountability with the Associate Director – Facilities for ensuring a non-clinical governance framework is in place.
