The RegisteredNurse Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing that the charity maintains thehigh clinical and professional standards it is renowned for. Supported by aClinical Director, the role ensures that the services offered are safe,effective, caring, responsive and well led. Leading on Governance, riskassessment and management, the Registered Nurse Manager influences the cultureand ethos of the charity and helps to support the patients and familiespalliative care experience.

Working primarily from the Chipping Norton Officewith some homeworking, no two days are the same making this an interesting andrewarding role.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be required to ensure that:

  • The nursing team operates to defined clinicalstandards and that it meets its objectives. This includes the requirements ofprofessional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and theprofessional standards outlined within the NMC Code.
  • Safe working practices are developed andimplemented particularly those relating to health and safety at work.
  • A culture of quality is embedded within LHNTand that clinical governance and risk management are implemented.
  • Leadership, co-ordination, and line managementfor LHNT is provided within the agreed scope of the service. Specifically, thisincludes line management to the LHNT Coordinators and LHNT Clinical Team.
  • The service delivery is developed in responseto changing patient need, local healthcare design and available resource.

Founded in 1999in memory of the late Dr Martin Lawrence, The Lawrence Home Nursing Team providesexcellent holistic care for end of life patients who wish to remain withintheir home environment.Based in Chipping Norton, and registered with the Care Quality Commission(rating of good), theservice is provided in the local area by a team of dedicated nurses who work in partnershipwith the patient, their family, carers and the healthcare services in the area.

Clinical Duties:

  • Tomanage the workflow so that there is a consistent and coordinated approach tooperational delivery, implementation, and caseload management in line withlocal needs and LHNT team resources.
  • To ensure thatthe service establishes, sustains and operates to an effective risk managementsystem and organisation wide governance framework to support the delivery ofsafe and effective patient care.
  • To ensure thatappropriate arrangements are in place for the audit of clinical care and allrelevant supporting systems and processes. Monitor the delivery of actionsarising from such audits and reviews to ensure effective implementation.
  • To work withthe team ensuring any lessons learned are communicated, disseminated, andimplemented throughout the service.
  • Tofulfil the role of the Coordinator for the service if required in exceptionalcircumstances, adhering to the requirements set out in the LHNT Coordinator Jobdescription.
  • Toco-ordinate close working with the GPs, Community Nurses, Allied Health Professionals,and other palliative care providers; promoting integrated working and effectivecontinuity of care irrespective of the care setting.
  • Toprovide management and operational support to the team, to promote and maintaineffective relationships and team working. To maintain an overview of workflow,being aware of patient dependency, skill mix, resources and expertise requiredwithin individual nurse capability.
  • Topromote a culture of inclusion and recognition of the contribution ofindividuals and the team as a whole, particularly where many may work inisolation. This will include chairing regular Nurse and Coordinator meetings.
  • Tocontribute to the ethos, reputation and development of the Nursing Team and theCharity overall.
  • Tosupport a culture of continuous learning and peer assessment within the team.
  • Topromote and support continual professional development linked with objectivesand the annual appraisal process.
  • Torepresent LHNT in the strategic development of local palliative care services.

Operational Duties:

  • Tocontribute to the overall management and planning for the clinical financialexpenditure component of the service delivery and resource management includingrecruitment.
  • Toapprove clinical expenditure within an agreed budget and including clinicalstaff wages and expenses.
  • Toensure appropriation of relevant funding streams for service delivery i.e. CHC(Continuing Health Care) Funding, Annual Grant funding from Buckinghamshire,Oxfordshire and Berkshire West (BOB) Integrated Care System and ad hoc nationalfunding opportunities with support from the Operations Manager.
  • Tocollate and provide data or any other statistical information requested by theBoard of Directors including providing information for Directors meetings,providing reports when requested, investigating, and making recommendationsregarding any clinical aspect service development or change.
  • Toensure a culture of continuous development and learning underpinned by acommitment to the highest standard of care delivery set out in the CQC qualitystatements within the framework of the five key areas: Safe, Effective, Caring,Responsive and Well Led.
