Job summary

RharianFields Specialist Eating Disorder Unit offers a multi-disciplinary andcomprehensive provision to individuals experiencing complex eating disorders. Specialisttreatment plans are designed to meet individual needs based on clinicalexpertise and good practice determined by NICE Guidelines 2017.

Wecomprise of 8 inpatient beds, occasionally offer day patient service, providingservices for people from 17 years old upwards, catering for both male andfemale service users. We accept clientsdetained under the Mental Health Act and those requiring nasogastric feeding.

We arelooking for an OT who is a kind, caring and compassionate individual who ishighly motivated and dedicated to working with service users with complexeating disorders. Experience of workingwith, or understanding eating disorderedclients is preferential, but not essential as training will be given. Thesuccessful applicant must be able to work to strict boundaries and adhere tocomprehensive care plans.

Main duties of the job

Youmust be an excellent team player but also have the ability to work autonomouslywith our service users under supervision of senior staff members. You must have outstanding verbal and writtencommunication skills that allow you to build and maintain professional workingrelationships with services users and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Youwill need to deliver an effective, evidence based occupational therapy (OT)service to service users diagnosed with an eating disorder both within theacute and at times, community based settings. To be responsible for assessment,developing, implementing and evaluating OT care plans using a person centeredapproach. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, be involved in liaising and effectively communicating withall relevant parties including GPs, external stakeholders and carers.

1.Communication& relationship skills

Utilisehighly developed communication skills to conduct assessments of service usersand communicate complex information related to their mental health needs, toservice users, carers, relatives and other professionals.

Effectivelycommunicate complex and/or sensitive information where there are barriers tounderstanding. This includes communication concerning safeguarding and otherrisks surrounding a service users mental health.

Maintainand develop effective communications and working relationships within the teamand with external agencies contributing to decisions with regard to serviceuser care programmes by reporting back on the outcome of OT assessments andinterventions.

Promoteand implement creative ways of working with service users

Providesupport and education to service users and carers regarding outcomes from OTassessments and interventions .

Instigate,develop and maintain a relationship with the service user and/or carer tofacilitate the accurate assessment and delivery of care.

2.Knowledge,training and experience

Thepost-holder will hold current registration with the Health Professions Councilas an occupational therapist, or working towards this is newly qualified.

Provideadvice, training and support to other agencies around issues relating to MentalHealth

Maintainand develop a CPD portfolio to demonstrate ongoing learning and professionalcompetence.

Planand implement individual and/or group interventions, in collaboration with theservice user, using graded activity and person centred principles to achievetherapeutic goals.
