Job summary

This is a less than full-time post (80% Whole Time Equivalent) for a Consultant Haematologist in Haemoglobinopathy and Transfusion Medicine and will be a joint appointment between NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) and Barts Health NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

The main duties ofpost are:

Towork with colleagues to provide medical leadership in clinical and laboratoryaspects of haemoglobinopathy and transfusion practice at NHSBT and Barts HealthTrust to develop practices for the safe and effective use of blood inhaemoglobinopathy disorders.

Toparticipate in clinical research in Transfusion Medicine and Haemoglobinopathythat will result in better treatment for patients working with academics atNHSBT and Barts Health Trust.

Towork as part of a team with the Regional Transfusion Committee, and members ofthe NHSBT Red Cell Immunology and Patient Blood Management teams to supporthospitals in London and SE to promote Patient Blood Management (PBM).

Essential

  • You will have full and specialist registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview) and, if UK trained, be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT. You will have the FRCPath and MRCP or equivalents.

  • You will be able to demonstrate a clear interest and commitment to transfusion medicine, have recent experience of hospital-based clinical and laboratory transfusion medicine and are able to offer expert opinion on transfusion problems. You will also have experience of managing and leading clinical teams and be able to teach all grades of clinical staff, including those in training and publish and present in national/ international meetings in the field of transfusion medicine
